I found an older idea with the title: "Block porno sites based on name". This inspired me to another similar idea: to give an option in the filtering section to do a "heuristic filtering", based on name patterns.

Sites like "youporn". "porntube", "kproxy" or "daily-proxies" match to name patterns that identify them already.

Of course, using such "heuristic" technique will filter out some useful sites unintendedly. But for some paranoid users it could be an option to give a feeling of more security.

Additionally to the domain tagging we would have to create such pattern lists to each section. Activating heuristic filtering in porn section would filter out any requests for domains that contain "porn" in their names. Maybe there are some more patterns for heuristic filtering of the porn section...

maybe we would have to create an exeption list that contains domains like against-porn.com or something...

I prefer erring on the side of a few false positives. Block by terms and not FQDN

When a heuristic name reference is listed a bot could be launched by OpenDNS to automatically append domain types to the heuristic then execute a "crawler" to look for the possibilities on other DNS servers, i.e. "Like *upor*.* to learn a list of possibilities and from there present a list of domains for customers to eval and report on. It's really works the same as any SQL statement. Good idea.

i agree this would be so much easier for me to do, i hate that when my kids are doing homework some of these sites (porn sites popup)then some of my kids education sites get blocked by mistake. Good point.

For my own blockings I would like to be able to set wildcards such as *porn*. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be possible.

Install dnscrypt, it can do that.
