Have the ability to type in a password which is defined by the user to temporary unblock that website on that PC. So then if you need to get on a website which is banned and don't want to login and change the details temporarily just so you can acess it for a minute.

i agree. i like to have a large number of questionable material blocked, but my roommate loves that stuff. if he could override it (being logged of course) for a set period of time (in a drop-down box) it would make us both happy

This feature would be great for schools and all sorts of other institutions. Many schools block sites like YouTube due to the fact that it can be extremely distracting but YouTube has other uses then entertainment, so teachers could override the block to show students videos, etc.

Some schools block YouTube but the content can be inappropriate for kids. YouTube has become infested with soft porn and pole dancing videos.
Common feature in most web-filters.. Would love to see it. We have this in place for the kids (not me ;-) ).
I figure this wouldn't be that difficult to implement either... being a developer myself... say couple of hours max :-)

In combination with a time of day/day of week profile this override would be great.
The example I can think of immediately is having tod/dow block set on webmail. When I am testing our mail server I don't want to wait until after hours in order to get to a webmail account to test inbound mail. Quickly whack in the password and I can override the setting.
I would not want to have the ability to override sites that are phishing or "not safe for work" - just those that are in the schedule.

does anyone have an idea if this will be actually implemented? Since i've signed up fro OpenDNS, I have wanted to see this put into use.
This is a must-have feature. Please implement it soon!
This feature is really a must any family. The parent should be able to use strict filters while being able to override on demand.
I was going to suggest this same thing. It would be useful for sites you don't want your kids to access unless you are there with them. Parents could maintain a list of sites in opendns that are allowable only by password.

Please implement this soon, this is a highly needed feature.
May be a bit more work, but how about the ability to setup accounts in settings that can bypass certain categories. This way there's not just one "bypass filter" password, but a list of possible account/passwords that allow different levels of blocking.
I have heard this being talked about and said was being worked on at least over a year ago... is this functionality a possibility in the near future?
Would be a great feature. Really, sometimes you just need to be able to get into sites that you block for others sake. Definitely needed.
Need the override feature - this should also allow user to override for 15 min, 30 min, 60 min, or permanently - and let user change to apply this to site or category being blocked.

Also only make the over-ride functions display if your logged into opendns.com account and also, you shouldn't display 'login to override' just hide it as a normal blocked page.

Yeah, it would make plenty of sense especially for the administrator of that network to be able to bypass the filter, since currently it blocks EVERYBODY on that network, no matter who they are.
Any news? Please make this request a priority :)

This is something I have been waiting for since the initial release of OpenDNS. The block is in place to keep the students on track, but us techs need access to sites the kids don't. And going into the dashboard and removing a block just t go to a site is a big waste of time... PLEASE make this a priority.

I am another that would like to have this service :)
I wish we had this feature!! I might have to switch back to netnanny until it is available.
Please add this feature. I believe it's very important. I have 3 home pc's. On one of them i want to have very strict protection (it's my brother's who is 10. The other two pc's is controlled by me and i want them to have full access on the web. Right now, there is no way to customize OpenDNS protection level for different pc's. Please add this feature as soon as possible. Thanks very much.
When is this going to be available?
I was told around 3-4 weeks, Please update us on how things are going with this feature.
Thanks
This will be available by the end of the year. We will post updates on our site and in our newsletter as it becomes available.
this would be great.
some households cant install openDNS in the router, becuase the parents still want access to many of the block categories.
having a password would be a great option.

I want to be able to exempt the business owner's computer from a different set of sites than the default for the company. I would suggest installing software on a computer that would personalize the blocking settings. The opendns client would talk to opendns server with its own settings that are different than for the network default.
I would like to have this. Password would be required. Special log would be created to show when the password override was used. Email sent to me as administrator when password override was used, so that if it was not me or my wife, I know we need to change the password.
please make this a priority because as you can see we all need it. please and thank you in advance
block page bypass. $2000 per year? give your head a shake. goodbye.
This feature was promised for the end of 2009. It is obvious that everyone wants it.
Daniel's reply was posted nearly a year ago promising us this. It's Q3 of '10 now... Is there any word about this yet, or a similar feature? If anything else was said by OpenDNS about this, I certainly haven't seen it.
Come on guys, you really can't mark something as "Done" 845 days ago and not actually "Done" it. Either make it happen, update in the comments, or put this back in the bucket as wishful thinking.

An essential feature, when's it going to be released???
Would be nice addition to allow parents to not be as restricted as the kids
| Edit
Sorry, but lack of admin/parent override is a deal-breaker for me. I need to be able to have the "parent" level filter and "kid" level filter, or at least the ability to elevate to the higher privilege filter as needed.

This is also the dealbraker for me... when will it be implemented!??
Password overrides have been implemented already for OpenDNS Enterprise accounts; the feature is called Blocked Page Bypass.
When will Blocked Page Bypass be available for non-Enterprise accounts? This would be a very useful option for just about everyone (with logging, of course!)

I would pay a subscription to support this use case. I want my home network locked down TIGHT for my kids, but to be able to easily bypass/override a block by signing in or by providing a code. rnrn
| Edit
Yes, we need "Blocked Page Bypass" available to home users! I'd also be willing to buy the home vip account to help pay for it.

This feature is very important in my case. There should be a way the temporally bypass a website for a internal IP computer with admin authentication. This is the biggest feature missing from OpenDNS.

When will this be available outside the Enterprise product?

Temporary bypass is a must as would an extra subset of credentials that would allow you to do this on the fly. Public institutions by law have to have this feature.
