It would be useful for myself, and possibly for others with multiple sites, to have multiple users for the same dashboard/account, and be able to specify permissions for those users. I could then delegate a couple of people who could check the stats for their site every week, but would be unable to change blocking settings.

We're working to serve everyone from individuals to the largest companies in the world. And we're continuing to focus on free services.
What "corporate commercial products" are even out there offering what OpenDNS does, at any price? ;-)
@jchaven
Andybh was not saying it _should_ be a paid feature, he was saying that it normally comes with expensive products and that OpenDNS should invest their resources in another part of development.
If people wish to give their support to OpenDNS they can donate to them, ya know?
Could you make subusers, so that all the main usernames are not used up? Like username user1 has user1_bob and user1_sam.

I agree /w Nat, that's a great idea. I'm part of an IT firm that uses OpenDNS at all of its clients, and currently i am the only one managing the OpenDNS account. Would be nice for others to be able to help!
Or something like network groups. You start with a normal network that just your account manages and you can add users to that network or create a separate network that is managed by a group.
AFAIK multiple logins on a single account is on the feature roadmap.
Implementation date: unknown
Current Status: Unknown
An update on this from the OpenDNS crew would be really welcome.
I can't find the answer in the fora and don't want to mess up with the user database by signing up again with some fake account: what happens when someone at the same IP address tries to subscribe today? Like your kids after you blocked access? Or like the parents, if their kids have subscribed before their parents do? Or some employee of the same firm? Or when I forget "to release" my old IP address when I switch provider, thus blocking access for someone I do not even know?

I'd really like to see user based blocking as well....
if a user is logged into Windows on the machine (or maybe has to identify to OpenDNS and leave a cookie on the machine) as a particular user (say my daughter) there's a much more restrictive list of sites than my wife gets...
That there is an extremely great idea. There would be a standard block list for non logged in users but if you log in, certain websites could be blocked or unblocked. OR you would have to log in in some way to use the internet at all. However, that wouldn't work too well with certain internet programs.

@offbeatmammal: User-based blocking is a great idea, but it seems like a separate one. Maybe you should post it as a new idea? The purpose of this idea is multiple log-ins into the dashboard.
Back to the original idea...Personally, I really like tgeraghty's original idea. I, too, would like the ability for users to do some things in OpenDNS but not be able to change blocking levels.

As "weston" mentioned, I too am in IT and using OpenDNS for clients. As well as managing settings for clients and allowing others who work with me to help, I'd like to give some clients access to their own network or group of networks.
I agree that this feature is a great idea. I work in a large corporate environment and would like to provide read-only access for those interested in the stats. You can allow multiple users to manage the account if you have your OpenDNS account email address point to a department mailing list. That way all group members see the OpenDNS communication and can respond accordingly to unblock requests, network verification, Support responses, etc.
I would agree that this is a great idea. It would be nice to be able to set up multiple users/profiles.
If I might put my two cents on the idea I would like to be able to set up a sub-user and then define their privileges and networks they are permitted to act on (with check-boxes, etc) similar to the current filtering categories system.
Ex. Set up a user and give them the ability to view system monitors and set up or change network preferences (network ip, etc)and shortcuts but not have access to change content filter preferences. (Just for a fairly off the wall example)
This would allow each admin user to define their own categories instead of being limited to a predefined having to chose only some predefined privilege sets. (Sysadmin, stats only, etc.)
Being able to have different passwords used at each site (for dynamic IP addresses would be useful side effect of this).
This way each site would get have its own "managed" account, that could be managed from another account.
If someone changed the account password it wouldn't stuff the other sites (and their administration) up.
OpenDNS webpage should be hidden to user. So user should know OpenDNS is powerful and cannot be change or remove anything. OpenDNS is an firewall help them prevent bad things.
I vote down for this idea.
They will have nothing at OpenDNS to know about. OpenDNS should be an hidden firewall.
It's a god ideia to teaching some friends or students.
Delegated administration is a feature in OpenDNS Enterprise. Please see http://opendns.com/work for more information.
