I use OpenDNS Updater and it has worked flawlessly but it would be a great advantage if my ISP would let me choose an OpenDNS account as an option. I have AT&T DSL with a dynamic IP. It would be so nice if AT&T would just let me link to my OpenDNS account so that ever time my IP updates it would update my OpenDNS. Or even better if AT&T just made OpenDNS their dns server and your AT&T account gave you access to the OpenDNS configurations. Like the way AT&T now uses Yahoo for their users home page, OpenDNS would be their Parental controls.

the only issue is that i do not think it would be easy for them to do, it is less trouble to just do it on your own than it would be for them to do it in there hardware on a per user bases

While this idea is a very good idea, the likelihood of this being implemented through a partnership between the ISP and OpenDNS is probably very slim. However, OpenDNS has now started partnerships with router manufacturers, so it may not be long until we can simply click an button and have the safer, faster version of the internet we all know and love.

Technically you don't own any IP Block, its assigned by one of 5 RIR's, and at any time that you state that you, as i quote "We own the global IP's" your licence to assign those IP's to your customers will be revoked. I suggest that you check and re read your RIR member charter before posting such rubbish.
As for the partnership with NETGEAR. This is a path that has caused us as an ISP not to embrace NetGear. When something does not resolve our customers blame the ISP. Againw e protect our DNS requests and manage this function to control customer service levels

but when a customer doesn't have the option to block sites or detect the conflicker worm(New Feature) they blame the ISP for not blocking the conflicker worm update servers witch a real customer would never go to thoses sites cause there tastless...no contect hosted on them except malware...so think about the options your not giving customers...just give the option but don't advertise it and let the customer know if they have any problems with opendns that you don't provide support...you never will have to provide support for something you don't offer as your feature.

again, as an ISP it is YOUR choice. But dont expect to get good customer feedback on this. For most of your customers, who just surf and dont care about anything -technically or at least in aspect of security - this does not matter. But rethink this for advanced users who DO care about security and all that stuff. They need a way to manage these things on their own. I dont think your ISP IP block would be blocked at once if something slaps thru. And with OpenDNS disabled on your ISP net you will loose those advanced users. Just wait and see.

The best use of this line of thought would be getting major hardware manufacturers to include OpenDNS account registration/IP updates directly in their firmware.
Your right - and your wrong. Just by using dnsomatic.com - a free opendns service - you can use all those dyndns-Settings in the routers around to get things done.
Hey guys, i am just new here, and i am from the philippines. i think you're right that the ISP should tell you and offer you some options for DNS services. they should provide you with the website so you should choose from and if they find it better then they switch to their new DNS provider. I think there should be a advertising here and all the internet shops around here should use OPENDNS for there DNS service.
An added advantage for the ISP is that it costs money to run a nameserver. The more customers use OpenDNS, the fewer nameservers the ISP needs to maintain. Customer benifits, OpenDNS benifits, ISP benifits.
DNS servers have zones. Each zone can have a different forwarder. A forwarder is where a dns server looks if it does not have the information locally.
End users could easily be given the option of use us or them and placed in the appropriate zone, utilizing the ISPs dns or open dns via the ISP.
The only additional feature the ISP would have to do is block all dns type activity at their firewall except that which goes though their own mechanism.
The ISP could be the default account at OpenDNS and offer filtered content. If users need further customization / control of the filtering, open the OpenDNS ips would be open at the ISP.
I have done this in a variety of settings for businesses and churches, utilizing squid.
I do not believe ISPs like giving up control, or having anything which would indicate their services are inadequate.
I also feel that, software monitoring and filtering is not very affective at the user level. Typically, we have found it is best to setup filtering outside of the network or even better outside the organization altogether.

I like the idea but I want to warn: in Italy we use OpenDNS also because Italian providers are obliged by law to censor some sites. So an Italian firm providing OpenDNS as an uncensored service could have legal problems. And they could choose to filter down OpenDNS...

It would be wonderful to see such business relations develop. Not only providing flawless updates for the users, but more of the general population of web users access to the threat management offered by OpenDNS. Botnet Protection on a large scale offers allot of good for the world.
