Two problems: 1) A large number of domains are being submitted, while very few are being reviewed.

2) Users that are submitting large numbers of domains (in the thousands) are tagging domains incorrectly because they themselves have not even visited the sites. (I have seen tons of mislabeling as I've gone one by one through the lists).

What's the point of submitting 100K domains if they never get reviewed? I think it's a great idea. Who's policing the domain police? Other domain police. There's really nobody else.

Wrongly categorized domains is the NUMBER ONE problem with DNS gateways. And it's a huge problem. Submitting more domains when others are already waiting to be reviewed makes absolutely no sense. A building will not stand if it's built on a sandy foundation - and what we have here is a beach.

This is a bad idea as-is. Some people have a way of getting accurate lists of domains and how they should be tagged. Maybe someone is able to decipher a domain category list from a competing product and put that data here, which would benefit us all. But, I have seen some domain dumps here that were not that accurate.

If I had a list of 5000 domains that I knew to be accurate, I would not want to have to spend time tagging 10,000 or more sites just so that I can submit my 5,000. Some users here are great for getting the data while the rest of us can verify it.

For those of us who submit large amounts of poorly tagged domains, maybe all tags that particular user dumped into here can just be stripped and made uncategorized, his points taken away, and a warning given.

The dumping of huge lists of domains is definitely becoming more of a problem. It appears that the huge lists are compiled by automated domain searches. As an example, I block the "Radio" and "TV" categories from the business network here. The huge list of "Radio" entries submitted by one user include every domain that includes the word radio, even if it is about 2 way radio communications and equipment, such as one I saw, "CBRadio".

OpenDNS has been an excellent tool so far, but if the list of blocked domains becomes overly restrictive due to false tagging, it becomes an administrative nightmare for those of us that are trying to conduct other business besides be a full-time reviewer of black-listed domains. The end result of the large numbers of false tags being dumped in will be that the service will no longer be useful enough to justify the maintenance effort as a user.
