I suggest to allow users to volounteer hosting an OpenDNS server in a P2P style network.
This will allow to speed-up response times nearing DNS servers to most crowded areas, at no cost.

There used to be a howto on configuring BIND to do just that, at https://www.opendns.com/start?device=bind but now that just redirects to the sign up page.

Two points:
1. Personally, I do *not* trust every random person who wants to set up a dns resolver. How do I know that the IP that Joe Schmoe down the block says belongs to google.com really does? Big security risk imho.
2. Lets say you that regardless of the above, somebody still wants to 'mirror' for lack of a better term, the official OpenDNS nameservers. Afaik, all one would have to do is configure 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 as forwarders in their BIND configuration. Many people do that already for their own use. I don't know if OpenDNS terms of service would allow someone to do that for public use - ask them. However, due to the first point I raised, NO WAY would I voluntarily use some random person's nameserver, even if they [Allegedly?] use OpenDNS as forwarders.
Nice idea though : )
