It would be great if it was somehow possible to create a network shim driver which would sit in between the IP stack and redirect laptop's DNS queries over to OpenDNS company account.

I think this would be a great idea. To have the updater as a "hidden" system service and add the ability to have mobile/roaming accounts for companies and or users connecting via WISP. The only thing I would fear is there is potential for this to high jack networks is used on a WiFi or ethernet adapter, on a public network. Such as a coffee shop, hotel, or airport. Even if it required an agreement/license to only be activated on wireless broadband cards. There are a good 20 laptops, I'd deploy it on as they come in for routine maintenance.

I think that it would make more sense if OpenDNS would also provide alternative DNS servers for each of the preset filtering levels (minimal, low, moderate, high). This way, all computers in a company could point to the at least some level of filtering when the computer roams during a trip.

I like this idea - Kind of a sub-IP updater for laptops that connect to any network.
