I think there should be an option to take out all opendns refrences from the block page. Whats the point in having such a system in place if the user gets blocked and from that block page can come to this site and quite easily find a way around the block!? Once they know why they are being blocked and how it won't take long for your average person to goto the forums and find a way around the problem. Even if it was a paid for service as i realise they get revenue for links clicked on that page.

I can tell you from personal experience, there are few things more frustrating than getting a "This domain has been blocked" message thrown in your face, and not knowing who or what entity is responsible for blocking it.

You may have misunderstood what i meant. I mean when you get blocked there is a link to opendns, i think it says service supplied by opendns. Anyway, if a user clicks on that they are taken here, upon a 2 minute trawl through the forums they will find out about dns and how they are being blocked and then quite easily find a way around opendns. What i am asking for is to take that link off the block page. Obviously opendns want the publicity on the page but there must be a better way! As it stands now its only a matter of time before someone on my network figures it all out and then everyone will know!

You could block all outgoing traffic to port 53 except for opendns.com. So users cannot use non-opendns name servers, which is what you want to avoid. In some setups however you will need to have access to non-opendns namesevers, so you cannot block just any DNS traffic. On the other hand you would like to analyse the work-load necessary to implement the correct whitelist for DNS traffic compared to removing OpenDNS links on the blocked pages. I assume the later will be much less work and it will be less error-prone.

There is no real need for OpenDNS to advertise themself on blocked pages, as obviously the person attending that page is already using OpenDNS by some way.

I agree. There is no place like 127.0.0.1

I agree. This is the same of me before. I have sent an idea like this but i do not know can it become true?

I'm not using opendns right now just for this problem. I's like locking a door and hang the key just beside...

The new Deluxe and Enterprise services allows much more customization of the Blocked page, including redirecting it to the URL of your choice.
